Job description

The CPU Microarchitect/RTL Engineer role at Apple involves driving architecture and RTL development for high-performance, low power microprocessors. This position is part of Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, which is responsible for the innovative technology behind products like the iPhone and Mac. The engineer will focus on micro-architecture development, RTL ownership, and performance verification. This role requires collaboration with multi-functional engineering teams to ensure design delivery meets various technical goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture.
  • Experience with logic design principles considering timing and power implications.
  • Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging processes.
  • Expertise in areas such as out-of-order execution and cache subsystems.
  • Understanding of low power microarchitecture techniques.
  • Understanding of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture.
  • Experience in C or C++ programming.
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify micro-architecture from high-level exploration to detailed specification.
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Support the verification team in developing test benches and conducting functional verification.
  • Explore high-performance strategies and verify that the RTL design meets performance targets.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement and verify physical design aspects such as timing and reliability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
