Job description
The Senior Software Engineer will be part of the Microsoft Events organization, responsible for architecting, building, and operating scalable, distributed applications that support major events like Microsoft Ignite and Microsoft Build. This role requires a hands-on approach to solve complex problems and ensure the platform remains reliable during high-traffic moments. The engineer will set technical direction for performance, security, and reliability while mentoring other engineers. A strong focus on building systems that are scalable and secure is essential.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building event, media, streaming, or other high-traffic, consumer-facing platforms.
- Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform, preferably Microsoft Azure.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and operate scalable, distributed applications and services that power Microsoft's flagship events.
- Design for extreme elasticity to handle unpredictable spikes in demand without degrading the attendee experience.
- Own reliability end to end by setting availability targets and leading incident response.
- Engineer security and privacy into the platform by default, ensuring compliance with Microsoft's standards.
- Raise the bar on engineering quality through design reviews, automated testing, and continuous deployment.
- Partner with product managers and cross-functional teams to create resilient technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and champion improvements for scale and reliability.
