Job description
The OpenShell Research Engineer role at NVIDIA involves translating cutting-edge AI research into secure, production-grade systems. This position focuses on building runtime infrastructure for AI agents and requires collaboration across research, product, and engineering teams. The engineer will identify and validate promising methods from various sources and integrate them into the OpenShell product. The role emphasizes creating prototypes, benchmarking, and ensuring secure workflows for AI agents.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional practical experience in research engineering, software development, or a related technical field
- MS/PhD in Computer Science, Physics, or a related field or equivalent experience
- A strong background in turning complex research into reusable products, tools, demos, benchmarks, or production systems at scale
- Deep experience in several areas including LLMs, agent harnesses, multimodal generative models, and agent safety/security
- Demonstrated ability to drive independent technical investigation and communicate findings clearly
- Strong product sense and care for user experience
- Outstanding team orientation and comfort collaborating across various teams
Responsibilities
- Track the evolution of agentic systems and relevant research
- Identify research ideas that can improve OpenShell and translate them into product opportunities
- Reproduce and test promising methods from various sources
- Create hands-on proof-of-concepts using OpenShell
- Design evaluation and red-team harnesses to measure agent reliability and security
- Help design secure-by-default workflows for agents
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and research teams
