Job description
The Beats Accessories Product Design team is seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead mechanical design for next-generation products. This role involves collaborating with various teams across Apple to define product objectives and create solutions that enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate will bridge industrial design intent with manufacturable hardware, overseeing designs throughout the entire product lifecycle. This position also includes mentoring junior engineers and ensuring the successful execution of designs during mass production.
Requirements
- 8+ years of mechanical/product design experience, ideally in consumer electronics or similarly complex hardware products.
- Proven track record shipping at least one high-volume consumer product from concept to mass production.
- Strong CAD skills in SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar and experience with FEA tools like ANSYS or Abaqus.
- Deep knowledge of metal and plastic manufacturing processes and their design constraints.
- Hands-on experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and reliability/failure analysis methodologies.
- Experience working directly with contract manufacturers in China, including on-site build support.
- Familiarity with integrating mechanical design around electro-mechanical subsystems.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of job experience.
- Experience with acoustic or RF/antenna co-design considerations.
- Background in industrial design collaboration or human factors.
- Experience with statistical process control and yield analysis during ramp.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design from early concept through mass production.
- Collaborate with Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, and Marketing teams.
- Define product objectives and create solutions to meet those objectives.
- Validate the performance of designs through mass production.
- Own designs across the full product lifecycle, from prototyping to volume ramp.
- Mentor junior engineers on the team.
