Job description
The Materials Engineering Welding Specialist will join the team in Columbus, IN, focusing on resolving failures, optimizing materials, and advancing material characterization. This role requires strong technical knowledge and the ability to communicate effectively across teams. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering with a welding focus or in Welding and Joining Technology.
- A minimum of five years of post-graduate welding experience.
- Hands-on expertise in metal inert gas welding, tungsten inert gas welding, laser welding, and resistance joining processes.
- Strong practical experience in aluminum alloys and stainless steels.
- Knowledge of American Welding Society, International Organization for Standardization welding standards, and American Society for Testing and Materials material standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead component failure analyses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Select and validate materials and manufacturing routes to meet performance requirements.
- Produce clear technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transfer across teams.
- Develop strong internal and external relationships to enhance collaboration.
- Apply structured methodologies to trace issues and implement durable solutions.
- Establish and maintain consistent welding engineering standards across programs.
- Provide early-stage design guidance to prevent issues and strengthen weld quality.
- Coordinate welding expertise across business units to address technical challenges.
- Lead training and development efforts to build welding proficiency across teams.
- Improve proactive identification and resolution of welding-related issues through analysis and optimization.
