Job description

As a System Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will collaborate with diverse hardware teams to ensure product durability and reliability. Your role will involve leading cross-functional teams and designing innovative reliability tests to exceed expectations. You will identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process and work closely with design engineering teams to mitigate those risks. This position emphasizes creative problem-solving and continuous product improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field or industry
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally, as needed (up to 10%)
  • M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
  • Familiar with Failure Analysis techniques such as Optical Microscopy and X-ray/CT
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models
  • Solid understanding of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally effectively
  • Strong attention to details and curiosity of how technologies work
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with a passion for working alongside an amazing team and innovative products

Responsibilities

  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process
  • Work closely with design engineering teams to reduce risks
  • Create new reliability tests based on the physics of failure and anticipated user behavior
  • Develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications
  • Collaborate with vendors to meet testing deadlines
  • Support failure analysis efforts and offer design recommendations based on test data
  • Drive continuous product improvements
