Job description

The role involves working with the Reliability team to ensure and improve the durability and reliability of Apple's iPad accessories and input devices. This includes collaborating with various engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to field returns. The focus is on developing and implementing reliability tests, quantifying risks, and advising on corrective actions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovative engineering and a strong technical background.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a hardware-focused field such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience performing product characterization including mechanical stress tests, shock/drop/vibration testing, and environmental testing.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in iWork and Microsoft Office, including Keynote, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models.
  • Familiarity with Failure Analysis techniques and the ability to derive a root cause of failure.
  • Understanding of Design of Experiments.
  • Imaginative approach to Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
  • Ability to create clear and concise presentations.
  • Ability to use AI tools to improve work efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail and curiosity about how technologies work.
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to travel internationally without restrictions (up to 10%).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement creative reliability tests on new hardware programs.
  • Quantify reliability risk and support failure analysis resulting from tests.
  • Advise the executive team on the best path forward based on test results.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify design risks and develop performance evaluation tests.
  • Understand failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk assessments to quantify field exposure.
  • Analyze test results to motivate design and process changes.
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams.
