Job description

The Staff Distributed Systems Engineer on Ads Policy Infrastructure at Netflix will provide technical leadership for systems that govern and evaluate advertising policy across the ads ecosystem. This role involves shaping the architecture of the policy platform and leading initiatives that require alignment across various teams. The engineer will be responsible for establishing technical direction and making cross-system decisions while continuing to deliver code and designs. The focus is on ensuring reliability, scalability, and security in ad delivery systems.

Requirements

  • Deep experience in AdTech, with a bonus for experience in Ads Policy or Trust and Safety.
  • A track record of identifying and solving highly complex, ambiguous problems.
  • Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, ideally on the JVM or a comparable server-side platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to set longer-term technical strategy and drive architectural decisions across multiple systems or teams.
  • Strong knowledge of API design, data modeling, schema evolution, versioning, and correctness-sensitive evaluation.
  • Understanding of Typescript, UX, and UI design principles.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues and business consequences clearly to various audiences.
  • A record of influencing cross-team roadmaps and building durable alignment without relying on formal authority.
  • Evidence of mentoring and growing engineers to increase their effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering Leadership to set the longer-term technical strategy and architecture for shared policy models.
  • Establish reliability, scalability, security, and operational standards for systems used across campaign planning and reporting.
  • Identify technical gaps and opportunities across teams and communicate their business impact.
  • Remain hands-on by producing code, designs, prototypes, strategies, and architecture that simplify systems.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
