Job description
The Principal Software Engineering Manager will lead a team of software engineers within the Responsible AI group at Microsoft, focusing on building customer-facing AI services with a scalable and sustainable architecture. This role emphasizes high performance, low latency, and high availability in AI-generated and human-generated content. The manager will collaborate closely with engineers, scientists, and product managers to develop industry-leading Responsible AI services. The position requires a commitment to fostering a growth mindset and an inclusive work environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of directly managing software engineers building backend services, cloud infrastructure, or platforms.
- 5+ years technical engineering experience designing and delivering highly available, large-scale cloud services and distributed systems.
- 4+ years of technical engineering experience with machine learning model infrastructure, hosting, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of software engineers, hiring, growing, and upskilling their talent.
- Review the design and code artifacts that make up large-scale distributed cloud services and solutions.
- Lead project development across the organization and work with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- Ensure systems owned by the team meet business requirements and service KPIs.
- Take end-to-end responsibility for the development lifecycle and production readiness of the services.
- Ensure the team follows best practices of modern software engineering through code and design reviews.
- Understand Microsoft businesses and collaborate with stakeholders towards cohesive, end-to-end experiences.
