Job description
The Principal Software Engineer will join the Microsoft AI – Copilot Discover team to provide technical leadership on key projects that enhance web experiences for over 1 billion users. This role focuses on collaborating with frontend, backend, and machine learning teams to deliver impactful features. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in full stack development and a strong understanding of machine learning and modern web frameworks. The position emphasizes innovation and strategic alignment with stakeholders to achieve project goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- 5+ years of direct experience delivering, scaling, and owning highly successful and innovative content products.
- Proven experience developing and designing multi-tiered distributed services.
- Hands-on experience with deep learning model deployment and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and microservices.
- Solid communication and leadership skills with a track record of cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operationalize scalable ML and deep learning models using containers and orchestration platforms.
- Develop and refine LLM prompt strategies, evaluate performance, and continuously optimize model quality and user outcomes.
- Design, implement, and maintain responsive, accessible, and visually polished user interfaces and full-stack application features.
- Build and support front-end applications using TypeScript with frameworks such as React, NextJS, Web Components, and integrate them with robust back-end services.
- Develop scalable REST APIs and data access layers, ensuring efficient, secure, and reliable data flow between client and server.
- Collaborate with UX designers, backend engineers, and product teams to translate requirements, wireframes, and prototypes into functional, production-ready solutions.
- Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility across the entire stack.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and continuous improvement of development workflows and engineering standards.
