Job description

The Beats Accessories Product Design team is looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead mechanical design for next-generation products. This role involves collaborating with various teams across Apple to define product objectives and create solutions that enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate will manage designs throughout the entire product lifecycle, from prototyping to mass production. This position requires a combination of strong design skills and deep manufacturing knowledge, along with a passion for mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of mechanical/product design experience, ideally in consumer electronics or similarly complex hardware products.
  • Proven track record shipping at least one high-volume consumer product from concept to mass production.
  • Strong CAD skills in SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar, along with experience using FEA tools.
  • Deep knowledge of metal and plastic manufacturing processes and their design constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and reliability/failure analysis methodologies.
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers in China, including on-site build support.
  • Familiarity with integrating mechanical design around electro-mechanical subsystems.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of job experience.
  • Experience with acoustic or RF/antenna co-design considerations.
  • Background in industrial design collaboration or human factors.
  • Experience with statistical process control and yield analysis during ramp.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design from early concept through mass production.
  • Bridge industrial design intent with manufacturable and reliable hardware.
  • Own designs across the full product lifecycle, from prototyping to volume ramp.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, and Marketing.
  • Mentor junior engineers on the team to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
