Job description

The Senior Manufacturing Optimization Engineer will join the team at the Cummins center in Plainfield, IN, focusing on enhancing manufacturing performance through various optimization strategies. This role emphasizes collaboration, customer-centric execution, and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes. The engineer will leverage Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive operational excellence and integrate advanced technologies into production systems. The position requires a strong background in manufacturing or mechanical engineering and a commitment to fostering a motivated and engaged workforce.

Requirements

  • A strong ability to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness by reducing scrap and optimizing cycle times.
  • Capability to assess, select, and integrate Industry 4.0 technologies such as automation and robotics.
  • Deep experience leading Kaizen events and applying Lean tools like 5S and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Commitment to identifying inefficiencies and implementing structured improvement methodologies.
  • Strong command of CAD tools, Oracle, SolidWorks, and ERP/MES platforms.
  • A background in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, with an MBA or MS preferred.
  • A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred for leading data-driven problem solving.
  • Ability to interpret complex operational data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • College, university or equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience, including manufacturing or manufacturing plant experience.
