Job description

The Cloud Engineer at Rivian will be responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving the company's multi-cloud infrastructure, with a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS. This hands-on role emphasizes infrastructure automation, security, observability, and cost optimization for critical cloud workloads. The ideal candidate will work within a diverse team that shares a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to sustainability. The position requires a growth mindset and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.

Requirements

  • Growth mindset with the ability to evaluate and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Hands-on experience operating production workloads on GCP, with AWS experience as a plus.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Cloud Formation, CDK, and Terraform.
  • Strong knowledge of core GCP services including GKE, networking, and Vertex AI/Gemini.
  • Practical experience with observability tools like Datadog and strong debugging skills across distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming or scripting language for tooling and automation, such as Python or Go.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage AI tools and technologies to deliver cloud solutions that optimize performance and cost.
  • Operate and secure core networking, accounts, and workload identities in GCP.
  • Enable and operationalize cloud services to support AI/ML and LLM workloads.
  • Automate infrastructure end-to-end using Terraform, AWX/Ansible, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot critical workloads, including EKS/Kubernetes environments and HPC clusters.
  • Implement and improve observability best practices and participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
  • Drive cost efficiency by supporting ongoing cost reviews and optimization efforts.
