Job description

As a Research Scientist on the Antibody Discovery team at Elanco, you will be instrumental in advancing the company's pipeline by producing high-quality proteins for structural biology studies. This lab-based role involves tackling complex expression challenges and mastering automated purification systems. You will contribute directly to the discovery of novel animal health solutions, working in a diverse and inclusive environment that values innovation and creativity. Your expertise in protein expression and purification will be crucial for the success of various projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, or a related scientific field.
  • Foundational hands-on experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, typically gained through academic research (0-2 years).
  • Demonstrated expertise in common protein expression/purification techniques.
  • Strong aptitude for independent experimental design and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute multi-platform protein expression and purification strategies for structural biology studies.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot protocols for automated chromatography and various purification techniques.
  • Employ advanced genetic construct design to enhance protein solubility and suitability for structural biology studies.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for outsourced protein production projects with external Contract Research Organizations.
  • Maintain rigorous and timely documentation of all experimental procedures and results within the Electronic Laboratory Notebook system.

Benefits

  • Employees at Elanco are often offered competitive compensation with annual bonus and equity eligibility, retirement plans (including a U.S. 401(k)), and comprehensive health coverage—medical, dental, vision, company-paid life and disability—and even pet insurance. Time-off and flexibility typically include generous PTO, U.S. mid-year and year-end paid shutdown weeks, parental leave, and flexible/remote work options. Employees also benefit from strong development programs (onboarding, course libraries, mentorship, nine ERGs, and tiered leadership programs) that support both professional growth and community involvement.
