You will collaborate with diverse hardware teams to identify and mitigate high-risk failure modes early in the design process. This position involves creating reliability tests based on user behavior and physics of failure, as well as supporting failure analysis efforts. Your contributions will drive continuous product improvements and help shape the future of Apple's offerings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, or physics with 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Failure Analysis techniques including Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
  • Ability to create clear and concise presentations using tools like Keynote and Excel.
  • Proficiency in basic productivity applications such as email, web browsers, and spreadsheets.
  • Willingness to travel internationally without restriction, up to 10%.
  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Weibull and JMP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence in presenting test results and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering teams to reduce risks.
  • Create new reliability tests based on the physics of failure and anticipated user behavior.
  • Develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications.
  • Collaborate with vendors to meet testing deadlines.
  • Support failure analysis efforts and provide design recommendations based on test data.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Perform tests and troubleshoot issues independently.
  • Take on new tasks with a proactive attitude.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
