The Optical Network Development Engineer will join the Core Networking team at AWS, focusing on building, deploying, and scaling Amazon's networks across global data centers. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks. The team is dedicated to optimizing network performance and reliability while supporting significant AWS customers. Engineers will collaborate with various specialists to deliver high standards for safety and security in network operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
- Experience in major internet routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF.
- Experience with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos.
- Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
- Knowledge of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and operational excellence concepts.
- Experience with Unix and scripting in Perl, shell, C or C++.
- Experience working with customers to diagnose problems and work towards resolution.
Responsibilities
- Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh.
- Create and implement changes on the network.
- Work closely with automation teams to define scaling tools.
- Lead network projects in areas such as sustaining engineering and network optimization.
- Provide critical network support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events.
- Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, and performance issues.
- Drive and support innovation across the network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Network/Infrastructure organizations on engineering and configuration standards.
- Ensure compliance with networking standards and policies.
- Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Create and review documentation regarding network implementations and standard operating procedures.
