Job description
The Principal Data and Applied Scientist will join Microsoft's Commercial Business & AI (CEAI) Data Science and Applied AI team to drive innovation in AI capabilities. This role focuses on applying advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and machine learning to solve complex business challenges. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering and product management teams to enhance Microsoft's Dynamics 365 applications. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on thousands of users across Microsoft's sales, marketing, and support platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience.
- Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience.
- Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience.
- Experience in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Experience with ML development platforms such as Azure Machine Learning, Azure AI Foundry, and Azure OpenAI.
Responsibilities
- Partner with senior business, engineering, and product stakeholders to translate ambiguous questions about AI impact into well-scoped scientific problems.
- Own the scientific and statistical strategy for measuring the business impact of AI.
- Define and govern the metric framework that connects AI adoption and usage to downstream business outcomes.
- Turn problem formulations into executable plans by selecting or creating appropriate methods and algorithms.
- Write robust, reusable, and extensible code and analytical pipelines for impact measurement.
- Develop ML and GenAI models using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Lead the evaluation of GenAI solutions end to end, designing evaluation methodology and diagnosing quality issues.
- Communicate findings and influence investment decisions based on evidence.
- Raise the scientific bar across the broader team through design reviews and mentorship.
- Use AI-powered tools in daily work to accelerate coding, analysis, experimentation, and reporting.
