Job description

The Staff Software Engineer role focuses on leading a newly consolidated engineering team within the Hybrid Cloud Environment (HCE) at Google. This team is responsible for enabling safe-by-default use of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) by integrating security, privacy, regulatory, and financial operations into the platform layer. The engineer will work on critical projects that impact Google's flagship products and will have opportunities to influence technical decisions across the company. The position requires versatility and leadership qualities to tackle complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience in applications security, cryptography, network security, systems security, or malware analysis.
  • Experience with Engineering Tools and Infrastructure.
  • Experience with Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that align with the broader organization's goals.
  • Establish clear expectations with team members and provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Lead the technical design and execution of dynamic security controls and policy actuation across Alphabet's cloud footprint.
  • Serve as a technical anchor for the Hybrid Guardrails engineering team, reviewing complex designs and mentoring engineers.
  • Design intelligent components to enforce appropriate security guardrails based on workload intent and data sensitivity.
