Job description

The Senior Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Differentials at Rivian will lead the establishment and technical development of differential systems for next-generation electric vehicles. This role involves bridging the gap between concept design, supplier management, and vehicle integration to ensure optimal performance. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency and minimize noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). The position is based in Plymouth, MI and requires a passion for innovative engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in drivetrain, axle, or transmission engineering with a focus on differential design/release.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as CATIA V5/V6 or NX.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical differential architectures including Open Differentials, Limited-Slip Differentials, and Disconnect Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Author and manage Rivian Statement of Requirements (SOR) for Drive Unit Differential technologies.
  • Work cross-functionally with purchasing and technical program manager members to lead supplier technical reviews.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle from concept through Design Validation, Process Validation, launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Software & Controls teams to optimize disconnect actuators for maximum BEV efficiency.
  • Direct tier-1 suppliers on component development, tooling timelines, cost targets, and quality deliverables.
