Job description

The Industrial Design Engineer II (IDE II) role at Amazon's One Material Handling System (OMHS) team focuses on designing major sub-system portions of material handling systems for next-generation fulfillment facilities. The IDE II will work autonomously on functional areas such as sortation loops and automated storage systems, contributing to scalable design delivery across multiple sites. This position requires collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure integration and feasibility of designs. The IDE team is dedicated to transforming Amazon's material handling capabilities through innovative engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in material handling system design, industrial engineering, or systems integration
  • Experience designing sub-system level material handling solutions at LOD 200–300
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or CREO
  • Experience producing equipment specifications and vendor procurement documentation

Responsibilities

  • Design major portions of material handling systems for ARS Gen14 or SSD facilities
  • Develop standard design templates and configuration patterns for the OMHS portfolio
  • Collaborate with WWDE, Electrical Engineering, and I&D teams on design integration
  • Produce equipment specifications for vendor procurement, including detailed RFP technical sections
  • Manage design complexity across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality
  • Develop design validation approaches to prove solutions before construction
  • Mentor IDE I team members and contribute to the evolution of OMHS design standards

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
