Job description
The Senior Structural Engineer will serve as a Structural Subject Matter Expert within the Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation team, focusing on data center programming, design development, and construction administration. This role involves providing technical direction and oversight for data center designs in the AMERS region, ensuring compliance with Microsoft's structural design standards. The successful candidate will lead innovative structural design concepts for current and future data center projects. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering and 3+ years of technical engineering experience or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
- Professional Engineering license in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- 10+ years of technical structural engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field, or 8+ years with a Master's degree.
- 5+ years of experience in mission critical data center structural design.
- Experience in navigating Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam, and BIM 360 software.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal Microsoft and external stakeholders to provide structural engineering technical direction.
- Deliver projects aligned with defined structural performance criteria within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide technical direction, oversight, and design review for new data center designs, builds, leases, retrofits, and renovations.
- Lead teams of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes related to large hyperscale data centers.
- Research and develop low embodied carbon structural design solutions.
