Job description
The Mechanical Engineer role at Apple focuses on evaluating and innovating data center cooling and electrical infrastructure components. As part of the Data Center Engineering team within the Infrastructure Services organization, the engineer will work in lab environments and data centers to improve systems and processes. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field or equivalent job-related experience
- 5+ years of experience with Mechanical 2D and/or 3D modeling tools
- 5+ years of experience with analysis methods such as CFD, FEA, stress, strain, vibration analysis, thermal, fluid flow, or failure analysis
- 5+ years of experience in product design, validation, or evaluation
- Hands-on experience working in a dynamic lab environment
- Proven record of excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience in researching, understanding, and explaining complex systems in clear and concise language
- Experience in methods for root cause failure analysis and corrective actions
- A thorough understanding of the fundamental aspects of thermal design
- Strong modeling skills with experience accurately capturing complex details and understanding machine shop processes
- Experience with CFD analysis tools such as 6 Sigma, ICEPAK, etc.
- Understanding of data center infrastructure operation and cooling solutions
- Proficient with Excel, Numbers, or equivalent to organize, analyze, and visualize data
- Self-starter, self-driven, and able to lead other team members
- Understanding of electrical engineering
Responsibilities
- Drive the evaluation of a wide variety of devices, equipment, and systems in lab environments and data centers
- Innovate or refine test environments to improve concepts, products, services, methods, and procedures
- Evaluate and characterize systems for performance and reliability
- Conduct root cause failure analysis to identify and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with team members to enhance data center operations and infrastructure solutions
