Job description
The Microphone Module Engineer will join Apple's elite Acoustics team, focusing on microphone hardware design, validation, and problem-solving to enhance sound quality across product lines. This role involves modeling and analyzing new sensor and actuator technologies, particularly MEMS technologies, to develop innovative acoustics features. The engineer will work closely with multi-functional teams and suppliers to drive technology development and address engineering challenges. Creativity and quick problem-solving skills will be essential in this dynamic environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) within high-volume consumer electronic products and/or modules.
- Direct experience with MEMS technologies is vital.
- Experience with ANSYS or COMSOL is required.
- Deep understanding of multiphysics modeling, including linear and non-linear structural analysis, thermoviscous acoustics, electronics, RF, heat transfer, and magnetics as applied to mobile devices.
- Experience characterizing and debugging MEMS transducers such as IMUs, pressure sensors, microphones, and micro-mirrors.
- Direct experience with electrostatic and piezoelectric transducers.
- Experience developing simplified models using tools such as Spice, Matlab, or Verilog.
- Expertise in designing experiments and analyzing data using tools such as JMP or Matlab.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor and MEMS materials and packaging.
- Experience modeling MEMS-package interactions.
- Most engineers have advanced degrees in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field.
Responsibilities
- Model and analyze new sensor and actuator technologies to enable new acoustics features.
- Scope new MEMS technologies and devise proof-of-concept designs, models, and test-structures.
- Communicate findings and takeaways regularly with a diverse multi-functional team.
- Interact with suppliers and sub-contractors to drive technologies that enable new functionalities.
- Diagnose engineering issues and drive to definitive root cause.
- Identify useful technologies to transition from development to product utilization.
- Present status, risk, and mitigation strategies to the team.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
