The Apple Card & Savings team is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a talented group of engineers in building and scaling the backend systems that support Apple Card and Apple Savings. This role involves balancing technical leadership with collaboration across product, design, and engineering teams. The manager will ensure the delivery of high-quality software that meets performance and reliability standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to impact consumer technology and financial infrastructure at scale.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed backend systems.
  • Proven experience managing and growing a team of software engineers in a fast-paced product environment.
  • Deep expertise in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience designing services for scale and performance.
  • Strong background in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and API design.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and high-throughput messaging systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills to convey technical complexity clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with financial services, payments, or fintech domains, including regulatory and compliance considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, and large-scale system reliability practices.
  • Proficiency in modern CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
  • Experience working in organizations with high data-privacy and security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers building and scaling distributed systems for Apple Card and Apple Savings.
  • Balance hands-on technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality software that meets Apple's performance and reliability standards.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and partner engineering teams to define roadmaps and resolve ambiguity.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Define and track engineering health metrics such as latency, throughput, and error rates.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
