Job description
The Staff ML Software Engineer role at Netflix focuses on enhancing the AI for Member Systems (AIMS) by developing observability, cost, and platform subsystems for next-generation AI workflows. The team is dedicated to ensuring the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of AI/ML systems that serve over 300 million members. This position requires a blend of strong software engineering skills and experience in AI/ML systems at scale. The engineer will play a crucial role in modernizing the AIMS infrastructure to meet evolving demands.
Requirements
- Significant experience designing, building, and operating production AI/ML systems at scale.
- Hands-on experience building subsystems that support advanced agentic architectures.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with deep Python expertise and proficiency in at least one JVM language.
- Proven track record of improving AI/ML system reliability and reducing infrastructure costs.
- Experience building observability and monitoring systems for AI/ML workloads.
- Strong distributed systems background, including batch processing and real-time serving infrastructure.
- Ability to collaborate with partner teams to drive technical programs across functions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate subsystems for observability, evaluation, and tooling for ML architecture.
- Prove the subsystems on AIMS's current operations, including anomaly detection and operational automation.
- Design and build observability systems that provide deep visibility into model behavior and data quality.
- Identify and drive cost optimization across AIMS training and serving infrastructure.
- Architect reliability improvements across the AIMS AI/ML stack.
- Contribute to the target architecture and migration path for the modernized AIMS AI/ML stack.
- Continuously evaluate emerging infrastructure patterns and translate them into a forward-looking roadmap.
Benefits
- Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
