Job description

Morgan Stanley is seeking an Associate-level individual to join the Specialty Softline, Department Store, and Branded Apparel & Footwear team in New York City. This role focuses on providing equity research for a variety of retailers and brands, including Lululemon and Nike. The candidate will leverage analytical skills to create financial models and write research reports. Collaboration with global teams and maintaining relationships with institutional investors are key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • The candidate should have 3+ years of professional experience in Equity Research, Investment Banking, Capital Markets, and/or the retail industry.
  • Experience utilizing Excel to build and/or maintain financial models is required.
  • Experience writing in a professional capacity, such as crafting equity research notes or industry reports, is necessary.
  • Strong attention to detail is a must.
  • Retail sector experience is a plus.
  • Accounting experience is a plus.
  • CFA is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain earnings, valuation, and industry models leveraging skills in general data analysis, accounting, finance, and economics.
  • Write research reports for initiations of coverage, quarterly earnings results, company announcements, industry news, and industry-wide themes/trends.
  • Collaborate with US and global teams across sectors on written reports or presentations on relevant themes and trends.
  • Service and develop relationships with institutional investors by responding to requests for data analysis and hosting events or calls as needed.
  • Keep abreast of industry-related news flow and analyze implications of developments to companies under coverage.
  • Conduct industry diligence and primary research through surveys, expert conference calls, and various channel checks.
  • Assist internal sales and trading teams in analyzing breaking news in the sector and its impact on stock movements.
  • Adopt and apply AI-enabled research tools to accelerate information gathering and maintain analytical rigor.
