Job description
This is a Senior Software Engineering position at the Vice President level within the Morgan Stanley Equity Swaps technology team. The role involves hands-on engineering work in a large-scale, real-time, event-driven system that supports a global front-office business. The engineer will be responsible for designing, architecting, and building core components while mentoring less experienced team members. The position emphasizes ownership of architectural decisions and the integration of AI tooling to enhance the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Proficiency in Java, server-side, concurrent/multi-threaded programming, with Spring Boot and JUnit.
- Solid understanding of message-based architectures such as Kafka and/or IBM MQ.
- Strong RDBMS skills, preferably with Sybase and/or DB2, and proficiency in writing complex SQL.
- Experience with Unix/Linux scripting, particularly in Shell or Python.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve a multi-threaded, Linux-based, real-time Java platform handling high-throughput event flows.
- Drive analysis, design, and architecture for complex, cross-team initiatives.
- Work with a tech stack that includes RDBMS, MongoDB, Kafka, IBM MQ, Hazelcast, and Snowflake.
- Become a technical expert on the core cashflow calculator and ensure numerical correctness.
- Strengthen test automation and deployment practices while contributing to CI/CD evolution.
- Participate in L3 support for North America on a fair rotation, leading hard incidents and ambiguous problems.
- Actively use AI tooling to accelerate the software development lifecycle.
