Job description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Central Engineering Team at KLA, focusing on designing next-generation high-vacuum platforms for semiconductor inspection equipment. This role emphasizes ultra-precision and noise-control requirements, driving mechanical design from concept through validation. The engineer will collaborate closely with controls, systems, and manufacturing teams to achieve nanometer-level accuracy and stability. Candidates who enjoy solving complex engineering challenges in a dynamic environment are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with experience in motion systems, precision mechanics, or mechatronics.
- Proficiency in Creo/SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD modeling tool, along with experience in structural, thermal, and vibration/modal FEA.
- Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) experience across machining, sheet metal, and castings.
- Working knowledge of data-analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.
- Doctorate degree with 3 years of related work experience, Master's degree with 6 years, or Bachelor's degree with 8 years.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the mechanical architecture of multi-DOF ultra-precision motion stages operating under high vacuum.
- Select vacuum-compatible materials and hardware with low-outgassing and contamination-controlled design.
- Perform structural, thermal, and vibration/modal FEA and tolerance stack-up analysis to optimize design performance.
- Partner with controls, systems, and manufacturing engineers to integrate the stage at the subsystem and system level.
- Engage with suppliers for precision parts and subassemblies, including vendor selection and issue resolution.
- Embed safety-by-design into mechanical solutions and develop service and production tooling.
Benefits
- Employees at KLA are often offered competitive pay with bonuses, a 401(k) match, an employee stock purchase program, and financial perks like student-debt assistance, planning support, and group insurance discounts. Health and lifestyle benefits typically include medical/dental/vision, life and other voluntary coverages, paid time off and holidays, family leave, backup care, wellness rewards, gym discounts, and community-volunteering opportunities. Employees also get strong growth support through tuition reimbursement, KLA’s corporate learning center, education awards, and engineering certification programs.
