·FY 2025Job description
The modeling engineer role at AWS focuses on developing and maintaining high-fidelity functional models of AI/ML accelerators and their SoC subsystems. The team collaborates closely with various engineering disciplines to ensure that models accurately reflect architecture specifications and RTL behavior. This position offers the opportunity to influence chip design decisions and contribute to pre-silicon validation efforts. Candidates will work in a small, high-impact team environment with significant ownership over their contributions.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience writing functional or performance models of hardware such as SoCs, ASICs, GPUs, CPUs, or IP blocks.
- Experience programming in languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, or Perl.
- Familiarity with SoC, CPU, GPU, and/or ASIC architecture and micro-architecture.
- 2+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience working with design verification teams or integrating models into verification flows.
- Experience with SystemC or TLM-based modeling.
- Experience correlating functional models against RTL simulation or emulation.
- Experience developing or calibrating performance models.
- Familiarity with Modern C++ (20 and beyond).
- Experience with PyTest, GoogleTest, or similar test frameworks.
- Experience with multi-threaded simulation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-fidelity functional models of AI/ML accelerators and their SoC subsystems.
- Validate model behavior against RTL simulations, emulation platforms, or silicon measurements.
- Partner with design verification teams to integrate models into pre-silicon validation environments.
- Collaborate with architects, RTL design engineers, ML software engineers, and compiler engineers to evaluate architecture and microarchitecture tradeoffs.
- Contribute to cycle-approximate performance model efforts enabling architectural exploration ahead of RTL availability.
- Quantify system-level tradeoffs across compute, memory bandwidth, networking, and storage.
- Build and improve modeling infrastructure including simulation frameworks and automated correlation checks.
- Develop modeling methodologies and tools that scale across multiple IP blocks and SoC generations.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
