Job description
The Senior Noise & Vibration Engineer will be part of Apple's elite Acoustics team, focusing on minimizing distracting noises and optimizing sound quality in products. This role involves working closely with multifunctional teams to address complex engineering challenges related to noise and vibration. The engineer will lead validation work to understand root causes of issues and support technology initiatives. Collaboration with overseas partner facilities will be required, though travel will be minimal.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, or equivalent field.
- 2-5 years minimum experience in high-volume product development, including acoustic design validation and vibration mitigation design.
- Fundamental knowledge of how voltage potential and current can lead to vibration.
- Knowledge of acoustics and vibration principles and how motion of mechanical systems turns into radiated noise.
- Good understanding of electrical-acoustic transducers and their interaction with external physical phenomena.
- Acoustic and vibration measurement skills with experience in low noise measurements in anechoic/hemi-anechoic chambers.
- Excellent hearing over the audible frequency range.
- Ability to learn new coding languages and navigate datasets.
- Good understanding of magnetics and how force can be generated in a complex magnetic environment.
Responsibilities
- Author standard operating procedures, test plans, and specifications.
- Quantify noises and facilitate user studies to establish thresholds in lab and factory environments.
- Educate multi-functional teams on standard methodologies and run studies to learn new best practices.
- Lead analysis of validation work to understand root causes of various problems.
- Support and drive technology initiatives focused on projects.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
