Job description

The Manager of Hardware Engineering at Google will lead a team focused on developing innovative hardware solutions that enhance user experiences. This role is part of the Devices & Services team, which integrates AI, software, and hardware to create seamless interactions for users. The position involves strategic collaboration with internal partners and external vendors to align on long-term hardware roadmaps. The manager will also analyze complex hardware issues and drive corrective solutions to ensure product performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 8 years of progressive experience in hardware engineering or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 6 years of experience in hardware engineering or a related occupation.
  • 6 years of experience in technical leadership or people management for team development and project execution.
  • Experience in design and validation of interacting hardware subsystems or hardware system integration.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture principles and system design for optimizing testability, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Experience in root-cause failure analysis and system-level debugging of hardware and software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the hardware engineering team by setting priorities and providing performance coaching.
  • Develop the long-term hardware roadmap by collaborating with internal partners and external vendors.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of hardware designs against product requirements and customize solutions.
  • Analyze complex hardware issues, risks, and trade-offs to drive corrective solutions.
  • Review and approve hardware design, architecture, and technology development activities.
  • Direct performance measurements and simulations to optimize user experience and lead design improvements.
