Job description

As a Software Development Engineer II on the Billing Data Services team, you will build and operate systems that capture, store, and serve AWS billing data. This role involves leading the technical direction for large-scale distributed systems and ensuring data quality and correctness. You will collaborate with various teams to deliver features and maintain operational rigor. Your work will directly impact millions of customers and the billing processes of AWS.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 6+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 10+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design high-quality, efficient, and testable code in Java and other object-oriented languages.
  • Build large-scale, highly available distributed systems for ingesting, storing, and serving authoritative billing data.
  • Design storage and serving paths that meet demanding freshness, accuracy, and latency requirements.
  • Partner with downstream teams on schema and data contract changes to ensure backward compatibility.
  • Own and operate the systems you build, maintaining high standards for data quality and operational rigor.
  • Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as part of a Scrum team.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers across Commerce Platform teams to deliver features and drive best practices.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
