Job description

In this role at Rivian, you will define and own the requirements for the high compute platform and its camera subsystem, which are crucial for the company's autonomy stack. You will work closely with the systems engineering and software infrastructure teams to ensure the camera pipeline meets specific needs. The position requires a deep understanding of embedded systems and camera pipeline development, with a focus on delivering high-quality specifications and verification strategies. You will also collaborate with hardware engineers to make informed decisions about compute architecture and resource allocation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, automotive software platforms, or autonomous vehicle compute systems
  • Experience with camera pipeline development
  • Deep experience with Linux based systems
  • Familiarity with functional safety development processes (ISO 26262)
  • Experience writing system or software architecture documents, requirements specifications, and interface definitions
  • Proficiency in Python for tooling, automation, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with implementation teams
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, or Jama
  • Prior work at an OEM, Tier 1, or autonomy technology company on production vehicle compute platform

Responsibilities

  • Define, mature, and own requirements for device-side and compute-side camera software.
  • Author and maintain specifications that serve as the authoritative source of truth for the software infrastructure implementation team.
  • Own supplier-facing software requirements for sourced camera components, including specification flow-down and review of supplier verification evidence.
  • Define acceptance criteria and verification strategies for camera pipeline and platform lifecycle behavior.
  • Collaborate with the hardware engineering team on compute architecture, resource allocation, and platform topology decisions.
  • Support diagnostics and sensor integration systems engineers by providing platform-level context.
  • Participate in design reviews for platform software implementations, providing architectural feedback.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
