·FY 2025Job description
Rivian is seeking a motivated FPGA Design Engineering intern to join their Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) validation team. The intern will focus on building and maintaining cutting-edge HIL testing infrastructure for next-generation autonomous driving systems. This role involves translating algorithmic camera data processing models into FPGA hardware implementations and supporting hardware-software integration. The ideal candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for technology and the outdoors.
Requirements
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
- Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL through coursework, academic projects, or internships.
- Solid understanding of digital logic design, finite state machines, and basic digital signal processing principles.
- Familiarity with major FPGA EDA suites and simulation tools.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills with a willingness to work hands-on with hardware testing equipment.
Responsibilities
- Translate existing fixed-point mathematical models into optimized camera data processing RTL modules.
- Write robust custom RTL modules in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL to manage high-throughput data flows.
- Instantiate, configure, and integrate third-party and vendor soft IPs into the top-level design.
- Set up and run functional simulations, analyze timing reports, and perform static timing analysis.
- Manage the full FPGA build flow, generate bitstreams, and handle target FPGA hardware flashing.
- Collaborate closely with system software engineers to ensure seamless software integration.
- Participate in hardware bring-up, debugging, and continuous integration testing within the HIL testing framework.
Benefits
- Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
