Job description

Amazon is looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of advanced robotics systems. The role involves designing, building, and launching innovative robotics hardware that integrates AI and sophisticated control systems. The ideal candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team, focusing on mechanism design and prototyping. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of robotics and automation at Amazon's scale.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience
  • Experience with prototyping methods such as CNC machining and 3D printing
  • Familiarity with common mechanical components like gears and actuators
  • Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or precision mechanism design
  • Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Exposure to FEA tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation
  • Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts
  • Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms or multi-DOF linkages
  • Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teams

Responsibilities

  • Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for robotic systems using CAD.
  • Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation to support prototype builds.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural/thermal calculations.
  • Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements.
  • Conduct hands-on testing, failure analysis, and design iteration based on test results.
  • Maintain clear engineering documentation including design reports and test procedures.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
