Job description

The Embedded Software Systems Engineer will join the Engineering team at Cummins Inc. in Shoreview, MN, focusing on developing high-quality embedded software for various products. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required.
  • Expertise in software design, verification, and validation is necessary.
  • Strong systems thinking and requirements engineering skills are essential.
  • Ability to analyze and mitigate product failure modes using modeling and simulation is required.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and relationship-building skills are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality software that is embedded within Cummins products.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into clear software requirements and technical specifications.
  • Design, implement, test, and release software solutions that enhance product operation.
  • Investigate and resolve complex software issues by identifying root causes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver verified software features.
  • Influence software architecture, design, and testing decisions.
  • Lead or contribute to projects with varying levels of complexity.
  • Support continuous improvement by advancing software development processes.
  • Facilitate technical design discussions across architecture, embedded software, and validation teams.
  • Define and maintain system interfaces and communication protocols.
  • Support the development and integration of control features for power generation applications.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture artifacts, including diagrams and interface definitions.
  • Support system-level debugging and integration analysis.
  • Contribute to validation strategies, including lab testing and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence technical decisions.
