Job description
The Process Engineer is a technical expert responsible for manufacturing processes within the Optimus Data Collection Hardware production line at Tesla. This role focuses on both automation and manual processes, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and performance standards. The engineer will work cross-functionally with various teams to enhance process capability and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The position also involves managing process improvement projects and supporting the launch of new products.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Electronics Engineering, or Industrial Engineering with at least 2 years of experience or equivalent experience.
- Strong ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to develop innovative solutions for manufacturing challenges.
- Proven experience providing clear technical guidance to cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including cross-functional team leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and vendors.
- Strong people management and team leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in GD&T; experience with AutoCAD, Power Query, FANUC, PLC preferred.
- Proficiency in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Assembly (DFA).
Responsibilities
- Develop deep technical expertise in the hardware and processes driving Optimus data collection manufacturing.
- Ensure each process consistently meets Safety, Quality, and Performance requirements.
- Monitor and analyze process KPIs such as Cycle Time, FPY, OEE, Scrap, and Downtime.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on Safety, Quality, Throughput, and Cost.
- Define, document, and track critical process parameters using Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical data analysis.
- Establish, maintain, and enforce Process Control Plans aligned with PFMEA and Control Strategy.
- Support the launch of new products, model variants, or materials by collaborating closely with Design, NPI, and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Own and deliver process improvement projects, including concept development, cost justification, and validation.
- Manage procurement, budgets, and schedules for process changes, upgrades, or line retools.
