Job description

The Industrial Engineering Internship at Tesla offers students the opportunity to work across various teams, including Supplier Quality, Supplier Industrialization, and Industrial Engineering. Interns will engage in critical component development, quality management, and process improvement activities. The role emphasizes effective communication with internal and external teams and requires hands-on involvement in projects. Interns will utilize Lean methodologies and statistical process control to drive improvements and ensure supplier compliance.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with GD&T, AutoCAD, Solid Works, CATIA and MiniTab
  • Experience operating basic tools and equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and concepts
  • Previous experience in production control, project management, root cause analysis, material flow, manufacturing, process engineering, internal consulting, systems engineering, and/or warehousing
  • Knowledge of PPAP/APQP processes
  • Self-starter, seeks opportunities to improve processes, part quality, and overall efficiency
  • Software skills: MySQL, Tableau, Excel, flowcharting software
  • Bonus: R, Python

Responsibilities

  • Conduct critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external teams
  • Lead statistical process control activities for critical components
  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies and supplier scorecards
  • Evaluate design for manufacturing risks and identify feasibility of manufacturing processes
  • Lead internal program reviews for major New Product Introduction projects
  • Develop and manage supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing
  • Collaborate with Tesla Design, Quality, and Manufacturing to validate supplier corrective actions
