Job description
Tesla is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Sales Management Platform team, focusing on the technical strategy for systems used by sales advisors globally. The role involves architecting scalable backend services, real-time data pipelines, and AI-assisted experiences to enhance operational efficiency. The engineer will collaborate with various teams across Tesla to evolve the Sales Management Platform and support Tesla's AI transformation. This position requires a strong background in software engineering and a passion for building high-availability systems.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and operating production distributed systems at scale.
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages, with preference for Go (Golang) and/or Python.
- Solid CS fundamentals plus experience with CI/CD, containerization, and observability.
- Hands-on experience with Postgres, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Redis, and event-driven systems.
- Experience building AI agents or integrating LLMs into production applications.
- Proven ability to architect high availability microservices and influence technical direction across teams.
- Track record delivering mission-critical systems with global-scale complexity and high-uptime requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and delivery of high-availability SMP backend services spanning APIs, data models, search, dashboards and event-driven pipelines.
- Design and maintain integrations with other systems to support multi-market sales complexity.
- Drive AI-first initiatives to automate advisor and internal workflows and reduce operational toil.
- Implement reliable orchestration and human-in-the-loop patterns where automation and exception handling must coexist.
- Mentor junior and senior engineers; raise the bar on system design, code quality, and platform standards.
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure solutions align with product goals, operational needs, and advisor impact.
- Strengthen reliability and observability through tracing, logging, and metrics for performance, data quality, and rapid incident response.
- Identify opportunities where backend, data, and AI trends can improve scale, automation, and developer experience.
Benefits
- Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
