Job description
Tesla Energy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer and Team Lead for the Supercharger Software team, focusing on the Supercharger Site Controllers. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives to enhance Tesla's fast-charging network by developing software that manages telemetry, OTA updates, and billing. This role involves working with a talented group of engineers in an embedded Linux environment using languages such as Golang, C++, and Rust. The engineer will drive cross-functional collaboration and mentor team members while ensuring high-quality software delivery.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience using application layer languages like Golang, C++, or Rust.
- Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, and driving strategic planning.
- Experience writing unit tests and practicing test-driven development.
- Experience with software development for IoT platforms.
- Experience developing mission-critical applications on embedded Linux.
- Experience with JSON, Protobuf, gRPC, REST, HTTP, TLS, TCP, UDP, and CAN.
- Desired experience with charging protocols such as OCPP and ISO15118.
- Desired experience implementing software for power conversion, thermal controls, or battery management.
- Strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deliver high-quality, testable software for Supercharger Site Controller applications.
- Lead design and implementation of solutions within a microservice architecture on an embedded Linux platform.
- Drive hands-on product bring-up and improve commissioning and serviceability.
- Own root cause analysis of field issues and deliver quick, high-quality solutions.
- Define and grow CI test strategy to validate component and system functionality.
- Plan and execute roadmap initiatives to meet product requirements on time.
- Collaborate with various teams to design solutions that support new Supercharger product requirements.
- Mentor engineers and set technical direction for the team.
