Job description
Tesla is seeking a motivated test engineer to join the Low Voltage Test Automation group, focusing on building robust, data-driven equipment for vehicle electronics. The team is known for its fast-paced environment, tackling complex problems from early engineering validation to high-volume production. The ideal candidate will thrive on hands-on problem solving and take ownership of projects while contributing to the team's growth and operational clarity. This role offers the opportunity to design systems that directly impact Tesla's innovative products at the new factory in Reno, Nevada.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of demonstrated excellence as a Test Engineer or equivalent in a manufacturing setting for automotive, robotics or related industries
- Experience with tester architecture, system qualification, troubleshooting, limit definition, and process validation
- Ability to quickly learn new engineering concepts and innovate based on first principles
- Exposure to diverse test systems and industrial equipment such as pogo-pins, industrial sensors, PLCs, pneumatics, and microcontrollers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%
Responsibilities
- Develop end-to-end test strategies using in-house automation frameworks such as Python, Go, and AWX
- Create, analyze, and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical circuits using tools like EPLAN and Altium
- Conduct failure analysis on electronic components and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve design and manufacturing processes
- Troubleshoot from PCBAs and software/firmware up through full system-level integration spanning communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, I2C, and Ethernet
- Execute multiple projects in parallel while applying strong technical judgment and balancing priorities
