Job description
The Test Engineer, Self-Driving position focuses on evaluating and enhancing the Full-Self-Driving (FSD) technology through rigorous vehicle-level testing. This role is crucial as the productionization of Robotaxi approaches, requiring a highly organized individual with strong driving skills and the ability to manage dynamic projects. The position is based in the Bay Area, CA, but involves travel for vehicle testing in various locations. The engineer will work closely with developers to identify and resolve safety and performance issues.
Requirements
- Proficiency with Python, C/C++, and/or MATLAB
- Experience with software and hardware troubleshooting, ADAS testing, and vehicle road testing
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to interpret regulations and communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Valid driver's license and comfort driving prototype vehicles during testing
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent experience
Responsibilities
- Generate new test strategies to evaluate Full Self Driving
- Perform controlled vehicle testing across global proving grounds using precision instrumentation
- Develop test fixtures and software tooling for efficient data collection and analysis
- Use in-house simulation infrastructure to expand test coverage
- Analyze issues found during testing and partner with developers to implement resolutions
- Perform testing for regulatory and ratings protocols in collaboration with external agencies
- Maintain test vehicles and coordinate logistics for additional vehicle testing
