Job description

Meta is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to join the Data Center Critical Facility Operations team, which is essential for maintaining the reliability of Meta's global platforms. This role involves providing senior-level technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within critical facilities. The Lead Building Engineer will mentor other engineers, drive operational excellence, and ensure continuous uptime of mission-critical infrastructure. The position requires a strong focus on safety, compliance, and proactive problem-solving.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in critical facility operations, data center engineering, or a related technical field encompassing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls systems.
  • Experience leading or coordinating maintenance activities and technical teams within a mission-critical or 24x7 operational environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and operating complex building systems including power distribution, cooling infrastructure, and building management or monitoring systems.
  • Experience developing or improving standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance programs, or change management processes in a critical environment.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions following equipment failures or operational incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical resource for data center facility operations, providing guidance and oversight on complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and controls systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Lead the development, review, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, and preventive maintenance programs for critical facility systems.
  • Oversee and coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities, ensuring all work is executed safely and in compliance with site processes, change management protocols, and uptime requirements.
  • Mentor other engineers and technicians on technical best practices, equipment operation, and safety standards within the critical facility environment.
  • Utilize building management systems and monitoring platforms to analyze system performance, identify anomalies, and drive proactive resolution of potential faults before they impact operations.
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations following equipment failures or operational incidents, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to plan and execute capital projects, equipment upgrades, and system commissioning activities.
  • Manage work order workflows in the enterprise asset management system, ensuring accurate documentation of maintenance activities, parts usage, and equipment history.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the facility operations and maintenance program, including energy efficiency initiatives and infrastructure reliability enhancements.
  • Respond to and lead the resolution of critical facility emergencies, coordinating resources and communications across operations, engineering, and management teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Meta are often offered comprehensive benefits, including medical/dental/vision coverage, mental-health resources, family planning support (fertility, adoption, surrogacy), and caregiving programs. Financial benefits typically include a competitive retirement plan, equity awards, life insurance, and access to financial coaching and legal support. Time-off benefits commonly feature generous PTO and holidays, unlimited sick time, various paid leaves, flexible “Global Travel Days,” and a 30-day paid break every five years.
