Job description
The Self Perform Mechanical Field Engineer serves as a crucial technical link between the field, Project Managers, and Design teams. This role focuses on ensuring that self-perform mechanical work aligns with design intent and work package requirements. The engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining work packages, validating quantities, and addressing constructability issues. The position requires local presence in Reno and involves travel to various job sites in the region.
Requirements
- 2+ years of field engineering, construction engineering, VDC/BIM field support, or mechanical layout experience on industrial or large commercial projects.
- Hands-on experience developing or maintaining construction work packages or equivalent field execution documents.
- Strong technical writing skills for RFIs, sketches, and coordination correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, mechanical plans, and BIM models.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF markup tools, with BIM coordination experience being a plus.
- Ability to work primarily on-site and travel between multiple job sites in the Reno Region.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the day-to-day technical link between Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, Project Managers, and design/engineering.
- Maintain work packages as living documents that are updated for design changes and field conditions.
- Validate work package quantities against field layout and installed conditions.
- Walk active areas for constructability issues and document conflicts for escalation to the PM.
- Lead or support BIM/coordination clash resolution in the field.
- Coordinate with design/engineering on submittal and shop drawing technical review.
- Consult on Method of Procedure generation for complex system work.
