Job description
The Staff Test Engineer for Battery Electronics will be a key individual contributor and technical lead within the Hardware Testing team at Tesla. This role involves managing and mentoring team members while working on validating Battery Electronics products to high industry standards. The engineer will influence product design through reliability testing and risk identification, from early concept phases through mass production. The position requires strong technical problem-solving skills and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
Requirements
- Degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronic circuits
- Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
- Experience with an object-oriented coding language and scripting, preferably Python
- Comfort with EDA software such as Altium or Cadence
- Working knowledge of mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA
- Experience in creating and executing design validation plans and test methods
Responsibilities
- Perform validation and reliability testing at the component and system levels
- Design, build, instrument, and automate testing equipment for various tests
- Collaborate with Design Engineers and Reliability scientists to identify failure modes
- Mentor and manage early career engineers and technicians on the team
- Investigate Battery Electronics assembly failures to drive product development
- Identify and execute experiments targeting new technologies or critical failures
- Interface and simulate complex vehicular systems to validate firmware and hardware interactions
