Job description
The Tesla Camera Team is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop advanced sensor cleaning systems for camera modules in Tesla vehicles. This role is crucial for enhancing Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capabilities, impacting vehicle safety and production efficiency. The engineer will work closely with various teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software, to create innovative cleaning solutions. The position emphasizes rapid prototyping and collaboration to ensure successful integration across vehicle platforms.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in automotive ADAS or cleaning system development
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience in prototyping and validating next generation automotive cleaning technologies
- Experience with environmental testing including IP67, thermal cycling, and vibration
- Understanding of polymers, seals, and fluid dynamics for cleaning systems
- Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software, preferably CATIA
- Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
Responsibilities
- Lead integration and validation of sensor cleaning systems for camera modules across Tesla vehicle platforms
- Design and validate cleaning systems such as nozzles, air jets, and wipers for ADAS sensors
- Collaborate with Autopilot, electrical, and body engineering teams
- Develop system-level integration with sensor housings and create specifications and accelerated test plans
- Investigate various cleaning technologies and validate them on fleet vehicles
- Fabricate prototypes, iterate rapidly, and advance concepts through to volume production
- Manage suppliers, including conducting technical reviews and DFM/DFA assessments
