Job description
The Closures Systems Design Engineer at Tesla will be responsible for the design and engineering of dynamic exterior systems for Tesla vehicles. This role involves collaboration with designers and engineers throughout the product design cycle, from initial concepts to product launch. The engineer will focus on achieving innovative closure system targets while ensuring high-quality execution. This position is part of the Vehicle Engineering Team, contributing to the development of automotive body and closure systems.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum of two years industry experience in consumer product design or a related field
- Proficiency in 3D modeling utilizing CATIA V5/V6 or similar CAD software
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and mechanics of materials
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles of various commodities
Responsibilities
- Support automotive body and closure system development for the Tesla vehicle product line
- Conceptualize, design, engineer, and launch Closures Systems components
- Establish system level architecture and functionality based on market research and design feasibility
- Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla design and styling studio
- Support manufacturing processes and material selections for automotive exterior craftsmanship
- Optimize designs with analytical and physical assessments
- Interpret and develop Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, and PFMEA simulations
- Manage and collaborate with key suppliers to support vehicle development milestones
