Job description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of the Chassis Design Engineering team at Tesla, focusing on systems such as tires, wheels, and brakes for passenger cars and heavy vehicles. This role involves taking designs from concept to production while collaborating with various engineering teams. The engineer will apply mechanical engineering principles to solve problems and manage projects independently. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in a 3D CAD software, with CATIA being a plus
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T, with proficiency being a plus
  • Experience with component design, analysis, and validation
  • Great technical and interpersonal communication skills
  • Evidence of being a self-starter and bringing projects to completion
  • Prior experience in a relevant engineering field is valued, but openings are available from entry level to expert

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize designs in 3D CAD software with associated CAE tools
  • Validate manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility
  • Complete and release component designs and documentation, including 2D drawings
  • Validate components per defined engineering requirements
  • Resolve issues and concerns with cross-functional teams including engineering, supply chain, production, and service
  • Participate in the sourcing process and manage engineering relationships with suppliers
  • Deliver to defined schedules
