Job description
The role involves designing, implementing, and productizing advanced backend compiler optimizations for Apple Silicon GPUs. The GPU Compiler Backend team focuses on generating optimized code for Apple devices, impacting graphics, gaming, and machine learning workloads. The engineer will collaborate with hardware and software teams to tackle complex compiler challenges and drive optimizations to completion. This position requires working on an LLVM-based compiler backend that serves a wide range of Apple products.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in modern C++ programming
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years experience, or a Master's or PhD in computer science or a related field
- Strong background in compiler backend technologies, preferably LLVM
- Knowledge of GPU architectures and their differences from CPU architectures
- Demonstrated autonomy and ownership in resolving ambiguous technical challenges
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience developing LLVM-based compiler backends
- Experience with instruction selection, instruction schedulers, and register allocators for CPU or GPU compiler backends
- Experience driving production compiler issues to resolution in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced backend compiler optimizations for Apple Silicon GPUs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware and software teams to resolve complex compiler challenges
- Drive compiler optimization projects to completion
- Resolve complex production issues escalated by key partners in ProApps, Machine Learning, and Gaming
- Contribute to the exploration of new GPU architecture features
- Work on an LLVM-based compiler backend that generates optimized GPU binaries for various workloads
