Job description
The Manufacturing Engineer – Senior will join the team at Cummins in Columbus, IN, focusing on enhancing manufacturing processes and product quality. This role involves driving high-quality product decisions and improving product reliability through proactive risk identification. The engineer will also mentor junior team members and strengthen engineering processes using various structured problem-solving tools. Collaboration across functions is essential to ensure seamless execution in engineering and manufacturing disciplines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a relevant field
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies
- Proficiency in advanced engineering tools such as FMEA and validation planning
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Responsibilities
- Drive high-quality product decisions by integrating input from stakeholders and suppliers
- Advance project timelines by making informed decisions on engineering and testing activities
- Improve product reliability by identifying risks and mitigating failure modes early in development
- Lead ownership of components or smaller projects, ensuring accountability for quality and delivery
- Enhance cross-functional coordination to ensure seamless execution across disciplines
- Develop and refine work processes to increase efficiency and product quality
- Mentor and guide junior team members to elevate team capability and knowledge sharing
- Support VPI launch activities and lead improvement projects impacting safety and quality
